The Best Coaches Ever

DATE:

Coach John Wooden turning 99 got me thinking. (I know, dangerous, right?) He is obviously the best coach ever in college basketball. But who are his counterparts in other sports?

Here is my list:

  • NBA: Red Auerback - 9 NBA championships, He made history by drafting the first African American NBA player, Chuck Cooper in 1950, and introduced the first fully black starting five in 1964.
  • MLB: Casey Stengal - 7 World Series, hard to go past him even if it was with the dreaded Yankees.
  • NHL: Scotty Bowman - 9 Stanley Cups & 1244 Wins
  • NFL:  Bill Belichick - 3 Superbowl titles already, and one of the smartest men to coach in any sport.
  • College Football - Knute Rockne - 105 victories, 12 losses, 5 ties, and 6 national championships, including 5 undefeated seasons without a tie.

Ok, let me have your comments. I assume I will hear from the Phil Jackson, Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant fans. Let 'em fly.
